Plenty Of Drama In Bowen Shield

There were one point wins for PBC and Ard Scoil Ris in the Bowen Shield as only two sides have recorded back to back wins.

PBC recorded a dramatic 22-21 victory over arch rivals CBC at Lansdowne. With the game entering injury time and Pres’ leading 15-14, CBC laid siege to the Pres’ line and eventually Thomas Quinlan managed to get in at the corner for a try which Mickey Fielding converted.
Back came Pres’ from the restart and they were awarded a penalty on the CBC Twenty Two but opted to run the ball and Jerry Roche touched down and Conor Flanagan converted to give Pres’ the points.
Pres’ led 15-11 at half time with tries from Roche and David St. Ledger and Flanagan added a conversion and a drop goal. C.B.C. replied with two penalties from Quinlan and a try. Quinlan closed the gap to two points with his third penalty and then came the dramatic finish.

Ard Scoil Ris made it two wins from two with a 21-20 home win over St. Munchin’s. Ciaran Cusack and Robert Deegan scored tries for Ard Scoil Ris and Deegan kicked three penalties and a conversion. Ben Kilkenny, Stephen Collins and David Begley scored tries for Munchin’s and Mark Long kicked a conversion and penalty.

Crescent College Comprehensive also collected their second win of the campaign with a 26-20 away win over defending champions Rockwell 26-16. Tim Moloney, Ed Barry, Cormac Blake and Cillian Rae scored tries for the Limerick school and JJ O’Toole kicked two conversions and Gearoid Lyons one. Stephen McMahon replied with a try for Rockwell and Aidan Moynihan kicked a conversion and three penalties.

Castletroy College were 25-3 away winners over Glenstal Abbey. Skipper Gareth Kennedy, Cian Maloney and Paul Butler scored tries for the winners and Butler kicked two conversions and two penalties.

Bandon Grammar were 38-0 home winners over Villiers.

In the McCarthy Cup C.B.C reversed the Bowen Shield result with a 16-15 victory over P.B.C. Richard Cassidy scored a try for Christians and Alex McHenry converted. Michael O’Halloran kicked three penalties. Pres’ replied with tries from Mark Buttimer, Kevin O’Leary and Ross Murphy.

Crescent continued their good run with a 29-7 away win over Rockwell. Conor Slattery, Billy O’Hora and Glen Dickenson scored tries for Crescent and Cian Clifford kicked four penalties and a conversion. Rockwell’s only score was a penalty try which Jack Kennedy converted.

Castletroy College defeated Glenstal Abbey 34-12 with David Rawsome, Sean McBrearty, Conor Fleming, Niall O’Shea and Shane Hogan scored tries and Fleming kicked three conversions and a penalty.

Elsewhere Ard Scoil Ris defeated St. Munchin’s 22-7.
