New Gym For St. Munchin’s

Limerick school St. Munchin’s College recently finished work on a new state-of-the-art gym on the school campus.

The old school swimming pool was converted into a weights room/gym this summer thanks to donations from parents and voluntary contributions, and has been fitted out with €;25,000 worth of strength and conditioning equipment.

Most of the weight machines have been placed on the periphery with a large area in the middle for plyometrics, conditioning drills and circuits.

St. Munchin’s Gamesmaster Eric Nelligan explained that the new gym is just one part of the school’s recent refurbishments.

“Up until two years ago most of the sports facilities at the school were old, dated and a bit run-down,” he said.

“In the last two years we’ve had a massive redevelopment and now everything is state-of-the art.

“Along with the weights room, we have brand new changing-rooms and full sized sports hall along with recently acquired sponsorship for an astroturf. The plan is to install the astroturf in the not too distant future”.

The gym will prove a valuable resource for the students of St. Munchin’s and the school’s Senior Cup, Junior Cup and Bowen Shield sides.
