Munster U18 Girls visit Irish Women’s Training Camp

The Munster U18 girl’s team visited CIT recently to observe some of the Irish Women’s training camp. The team were preparing for their remaining Six Nations fixtures, which so far has resulted in one win and one narrow loss for the Women in Green.

On the day the girls were invited to sit in on a team video analysis session and squad meeting before observing the women’s on the pitch session.

Head Coach, Philip Doyle took time out during the video session to address the group and explain the process that players go through in order to progress to the National Squad. He also highlighted the importance of video analysis and the procedures surrounding this for the management and squad.

After the field session a number of players, including Captain Fiona Coughlan, took some time to answer questions from the girls, giving them an insight into the commitment and sacrifices needed to wear the Irish jersey.

Irish Team Manger Gemma Crowley said, “It was fantastic to have members of the Munster U18 squad visit today’s training session and we hope that they enjoyed the afternoon. It is a great opportunity for these young players to see the standards and get more of an insight into the National Team. No doubt that it is a very achievable dream for many of these young ladies to represent their country in the future and it is great for the current internationals to be able to impart some of their knowledge and encouragement to these players. We would like to thank them all as well as Amanda (Greensmith) for taking time out of their weekend to come along and we hope that they benefitted from the afternoon.”

All of the underage players on the day enjoyed the visit and it certainly gave them inspiration to continue their development as players aspiring to wear the jersey in the future. Munster Rugby would like to Thank Philip Doyle, Keith Murphy and Manager Gemma Crowley for giving the girls this unique opportunity.

Ireland face Wales this Saturday, March 3rd at 14:30, in Ashbourne RFC. This is the rescheduled fixture between the two sides, after the game was abandoned earlier in the competition, due to frost.
