Munster Schools Update

Schools PRO Maurcie Hartery reflects on last weeks competitive action across the province.

The Senior Cup Qualifiers (U19) marched into the semi final stage, with two games down for decision. High School CBS received a walkover in the first semi final against Waterpark College.

St. Clements and Villiers went head to head in the second semi final on Tuesday, with St. Clements having home advantage. St. Clements proved far too strong for a valiant Villiers side, winning 47 – 6, thus booking their qualifier final spot against High School CBS.

Like their senior counterparts, St. Clements also booked their place in the Junior Cup Qualifier (U16) final. Also like the senior game, it was Villiers who provided the opposition. A comfortable 43 – 12 victory ensured the juniors from Clements followed the same path of the seniors. High School CBS will also provide the opposition for St. Clements in the junior qualifying final. They set up this clash with a 15 – 0 victory over Scoil Mhuire agus Ide on Thursday in Clonmel. The qualifier final double header is fixed for next Wednesday (18th November) in Clanwilliam Park. The prize for the winners is entry into the Munster Schools Cups proper and a guaranteed two fixtures in the main competition.

In the penultimate round in the Bowen Shield (U18) there was once more four games to be played. Unfortunately, like last week, there was a walkover given by St. Clements, this time to Castletroy College. With the Senior Cup qualifiers under way a lot of the St. Clements players are involved with that team so numbers are an issue with the Bowen Shield. As a result of the second walkover in two weeks, Castletroy are now assured of a home semi final in the knockout stages. PBC booked their semi final spot with a 23 – 7 victory over St. Munchins in Wilton. We did not receive results from the other two matches; Ard Scoil Ris v Crescent Comp and Bandon Grammar v C.B.C.

Like the Bowen Shield, the McCarthy Cup (U15) reached the penultimate round of the competition. On Tuesday, the top two met in Wilton, where PBC defeated Ard Scoil 41 – 12. This means PBC are 8/8 and host St. Clements next week to complete a clean sweep of the league section. Crescent Comp travelled out to County Limerick to take on Glenstal, where they emerged 50 – 0 victors. After Ard Scoil Ris’s defeat, CBC moved to 2nd in the table and into a home semi final spot after receiving a walkover from St. Clements. Unfortunately, in Castletroy, one game was lost to the weather due to a waterlogged pitch at the Limerick venue. However, with both sides out of the reckoning for a semi final spot, this will not impact the latter stages. We received no result from the St. Munchins v Rockwell match.

In the B section of the McCarthy Cup, PBC completed the double over Ard Scoil Ris, with the “B” team running out comprehensive 61 – 15 winners. As in the “A” section, we received no result from the St. Munchins v Rockwell match.

In other challenge matches around the province, after winning the Senior City Cup last week, Castletroy College were brought back down to earth after been held scoreless in a 24 – 0 defeat to Rockwell College in Tipperary. At U14 level, PBC completed a double over Castletroy College in Wilton, winning the “A” match 39 – 5 and the “B” match 55 – 5.

There were also a range of Senior and Junior friendly matches fixed for Saturday 14th November (see below). This will be updated as the results come in early next week.

We apologize about the lack of results in this week's update but we cannot inform you of the results if we do not receive them from the schools partaking in the fixtures.
