Munster Rugby Strength And Conditioning Workshop

Munster Rugby recently held a workshop for volunteers who assist with delivering strength and conditioning programmes to young players within the province.

Over thirty coaches were in attendance from the four Munster regions with a number of clubs and schools represented.

Feargal O'Callaghan, Munster Academy Head of Fitness, thanked the volunteers for the many hours they have contributed to date in an effort to assist young players with their strength and conditioning programmes to enhance their playing abilities.

He outlined the improved fitness and strength levels of the players now coming through to sub academy and academy stages and emphasised the need to progress in this area to benefit the game.

Joe McGinley, Munster Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach and Gordon Brett, Munster Sub-Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach presented at the workshop in areas including design and exercise selection. They also outlined a number of exercises for volunteer conditioners to carry out when assessing the movement capacities of their players.

The workshop was well received and the Strength and Conditioning Department hope to run a number of similar workshops and courses throughout the year.
