Munster Juniors Prepare For Interpros

With two weeks to go until the first Intepro, the Juniors produced a clinical display to beat the Munster College’s last night in CIT.

The Munster Juniors completed their series of warm up games last night in CIT beating a Munster College selection in an exciting fast paced game. The colleges started out the better with 10 minutes of pressure from a run of set pieces but were unable to covert possession into points. The juniors defended well and were rewarded with a penalty try to open the scoring after Kinsella and O’Coilean linked up in Midfield to bring the play just short of the College line.

Again the Colleges put pressure through set pieces but it was the Juniors who scored again with some impressive running rugby from the half way line, Alex Simpson found himself just short of the line but showed his skill to offload to Fearghal Lawlor who dotted down under the posts. Jeffrey McNamara converted to bring the score to 14-0. Murray Kinsella added another 5 just before half time to give the Juniors a 19-0 advantage at half time. Kinsella can be especially pleased with his score having started the move in his own half and getting his hands on the ball 3 more times before crashing over in the corner. The Juniors continued to take their chances in the second half and try’s followed from Gearoid Phelan (2), Patrick Ryan and Ian Fitzgerald. McNamara converted 5 of the 7 to finish the game 45-0.

The Juniors showed excellent defence throughout as possession was hard to come by against a spirited and dangerous College side, both teams were willing and able to attack from anywhere and gave the 150 in attendance an intense and lively rugby spectacle. O’Coilean kept the College’s team out with a man of the match display and the Colleges could be forgiven for thinking they had scored more than once only for the full back’s efforts.
The Juniors continue training next week and look forward to the first Interpro vs Leinster on the 28th of April.
