Munster Junior Roundup

13th February 2011 By Munster Rugby

In what was a very quiet weekend on the local Junior scene because of the Six Nations game in the Aviva Stadium, there were no real shocks in the Munster Junior Cup as Galbally moved back to the top of the Second Division of the Munster Junior League.

In a very exciting Munster Junior Cup tie at Ennis, Shannon advanced to a meeting with Bruff next week after their 18-14 victory.
A penalty apiece by Bryan Murphy (Ennis) and Ben Sargent (Shannon) had the sides level 3-3 at half time. Sargent kicked five further penalties after the break for the visitors and Ennis replied with a try from Niall Nevin and two further penalties by Murphy.

Scariff made most of the wind advantage in the first half at Moneygourney as they defeated Douglas 22-15. Robbie Madden, Conor McNamara and James Kelly scored tries for Scariff and Kelly kicked two conversions and a penalty. Douglas hit back after the break with tries from Denis O’Driscoll, Liam Hynes and Dave O’Callaghan. Scariff will now travel to Kilfeacle next week.

Fermoy advanced to the fourth round with a home tie against Clanwilliam after their 13-10 victory over Dungarvan. A try by Cian Moloney gave Dungarvan a 5-0 interval lead. Jim Mackessy levelled for Fermoy and Shane O’Riordan converted to put the home side ahead. O’Riordan added two penalties before Richie Laffan scored a try for Dungarvan five minutes from time but the home side held out.

Galbally maintained their unbeaten run with a 15-10 away win over Newport. Kevin Casey and Stephen Bourke scored tries for Galbally and Darren Guerin kicked a conversion and penalty. Tom Ryan replied with a try for Newport and Michael Bawn kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Mallow kept their promotion hopes alive with a 24-7 home win over Bandon. Leonard Browne scored two tries for Mallow and John McAuliffe and Dave Walsh one apiece. Brian Morris kicked two conversions. JP Lucy was credited with Bandon’s try following a forwards drive over the line and Cathal Crowley converted.

Abbeyfeale defeated Kilrush 22-21 to bring themselves back into the promotion race. The winners led 22-6 at half time with tries from Conor Prendeville, Andrew Scannell, Liam McHenry and Michael Reidy and David Collins kicked one conversion. Paul Collins replied with two penalties for the visitors.
Kilrush rallied after the interval two tries from Trevor Downs and a conversion and penalty was not enough to secure the points for the Clare side.

Ballincollig finished top of their section in the Junior Two League after their 24-12 away win over Dungarvan. Fergal Considine, Kevin Ryan, Dave Lucey and Rob Foulkes scored tries for the winners and Ryan added two conversions.

Bandon made it three wins out of three in their section of the Mick Barry Cup after they defeated Skibbereen 20-14. Ray Nyhan and Sean Riordan scored tries for the winners and Cillian Glynn kicked two conversions and two penalties.
