Michael Goggin Elected New Munster President

The Annual General Meeting of the Munster Branch was held last night, 5th June at UL Bohemian RFC before a large attendance.

The out-going President John Hartery in his address thanked everyone for their help and cooperation over the season and proposed Michael Goggin, UL Bohemian RFC, as the new President of the Munster Branch for season 2014/15, which was seconded by his club.

Michael Goggin has been a member of UL Bohemian since joining the club's youth section at age 10 and "Immediatecontinued to play rugby with the club throughout his adult career.

A former pupil of St. Munchin's College, Michael represented his school in the Munster Schools Junior Cup Final in 1968 and the Schools Senior Cup Final in 1971. That year he went on to represent his province with the Munster Schools where he played on the wing.

Michael continued his rugby with UL Bohs at full back and captained the senior side from season 1976 to 1978.

Following his playing career Michael managed the Bohs' senior team in the 1981/82 season. He went on to coach the Under-20 and Junior side before taking up coaching the club's successful underage for a period of thirteen consecutive seasons.

As a former chairman of the UL Bohemian underage section and serving long term on the Club's committee Michael was afforded the honour as Club President in 2008.

Speaking at the AGM Michael Goggin said "I would like to sincerely thank my club UL Bohemian RFC for nominating me to be their tenth Branch President, the second since the club amalgamated with the University in 1999."

"UL Bohs is a most progressive club which continues to thrive at Under Age, Academy, Women's and Senior level. This is a fantastic honour for me and my family who have a long association with the club going back to the 1920's."

"Many branches of my family have represented the club over that time and I am very proud of that history. My family have been hugely supportive of my rugby career and I would especially like to thank my wife Lily, sons Ronan and Michael, both of whom played for the club at Under Age level, for their support over the years. I am looking forward to representing the clubs and schools of the province to the best of my ability over the coming season."
