Listowel RFC Playing Into The Future

This week Listowel Rugby Club will celebrate its 110th year and to mark the occasion the Listowel Development Committee will host numerous events within the local area.

The committee has joined forces with Kerry Parents and Friends Association to stage an epic fundraising concert with the Dursley Choir and Colm O’ Brien in Tintean Theatere, Ballybunion on Sept 3rd. The objective of this evert is to raise the profile of rugby in Listowel, connect with the local community and build a capital fund to develop exclusive playing facilities for all rugby players in North Kerry. The committee are delighted to share the proceeds of this charity event with Kerry Parents and Friends Association, a very worthy local community organisation.

The celebration kicked off yesterday at the Seanachai Centre, with an exhibition of memorabilia from the past 110 years of rugby in Listowel.

On Saturday morning 4th September, a coaching session for underage players will be held with some notable rugby personalities in attendance. Saturday afternoon sees the official opening of the exhibition in the Seanachai Centre.

A Question and Answer session with current and past players of Munster and Ireland will take place at St John’s Theatre at 8pm on Saturday night followed by a reception for participants at Canty’s bar in Listowel.

On Sunday Sept 5th the Dursley Choir will return to Listowel for a coffee morning at Listowel Arms Hotel with musical accompaniment by John McKenna on piano. The choir will perform at 12 o’clock mass in St. Mary’s Parish Church, Listowel.

Listowel Rugby Development Committee will host a farewell reception for the choir on the grounds of Listowel Castle on Sunday afternoon where a barbeque and refreshments will be provided following entertainment by local musical groups.

To end the week of celebrations Listowel Rugby Club will salute some of its past greats and acknowledge their contribution to Rugby at all levels from local club to international playing fields.
