Leinster Overcome Munster U19s

The Munster U19s were beaten 20-9 by Leinster at Anglesea Road on Saturday afternoon.

Munster led 9-6 at the break thanks to three James Taylor penalties but Leinster scored two unconverted tries without reply in the second half to take the win.

Leinster hit the front early on thanks to a Josh Miller penalty with Munster then being reduced to 14 men as Sean English was shown a yellow card for a high tackle.

The visitors responded well to that setback, however, and a Taylor penalty on 12 minutes made it 3 apiece.

With defences firmly on top, Miller kicked a second penalty for Leinster on 23 minutes before Taylor followed suit to tie things up once again, 6-6.

A third penalty from Taylor gave Munster a 9-6 lead at the break after a tense first half.

Leinster scored the all-important first try through Peter Sullivan on 55 minutes with Miller’s conversion moving the hosts into a 13-9 lead.

After a lengthy stoppage due to an injury, Leinster crossed for the second time on 60 minutes with Miller’s conversion moving Leinster ahead by 11 points, 20-9.

Despite their best efforts, Munster were unable to summon a response and fell to their second defeat of the campaign.

After a 35-0 win over Connacht on the opening weekend, Munster were beaten 15-13 by Ulster in CIT in their second game. Ulster took the U19 title after three wins from three.
