The weather disrupted this weekend’s Junior League program with just over half of the scheduled games being played.

With Richmond’s game away to Waterpark falling victim to the weather. Defending champions Clonmel have gone clear at the top of Division 1 after their 13-6 away win at Newcastle West.

Conor Cooney opened the scoring for Clonmel with a penalty, but Sean Herlihy levelled before a try by Alex Sheehan converted by Cooney had Clonmel 10-3 ahead at half time.

Ten minutes into the second half Cooney extended his side’s advantage with a penalty and Alan Roche replied with a penalty for Newcastle West.

Kilfeacle moved into third place a point behind Richmond after their 18-12 away win at Skibbereen.
Four penalties from Denis McCarthy to two by Shane Looby had Skibbereen 12-6 ahead at the interval. Keith Burke and Josh Featherstone added second half tries for the visitors and Looby converted one.

A last minute penalty by Eoin Keohane earned Muskerry their first win of the season as they defeated Old Christians 15-12 at Ballyanly.

Three penalties from Sean Meaney gave Old Christians a 9-0 interval lead. Tries from Joe Treacy and John Chambers in a three minute spell mid way through the second half, one of which Keohane converted put the home side ahead. Meany levelled with his fourth penalty, before Keohane’s late winner decided it.

Bandon’s recent good run continued when they travelled to Jim Slattery Park and shared the spoils with St. Senan’s 18-18.

A try from Gearoid O’Leary and a conversion and a penalty by Richard Walsh gave Bandon a 10-0 lead after eight minutes. A try from Malachy Gavin and a Declan Rowe penalty closed the gap to two points, but a second try from O’Leary and a Walsh penalty put Bandon 18-8 ahead at half time. Brian Collins and Fergal Lawler brought the side level with tries in the second half.

Seven penalties from Niall Leahy earned Clanwilliam their first win of the campaign as they defeated St. Mary’s 21-17 at Grove Island. Brian Purcell replied with two tries for the Saints and Sean Lyons converted both and also kicked a penalty.

Galbally continued their recent good run with a 19-12 home win over Clonakilty. Sean Bourke, Danny Hayes and Michael Donovan scored tries for Galbally and Jack O’Mullane kicked two conversions. Dave Lombard and Batt Duggan replied with tries for the visitors and Joe Lee converted one.

With Cobh Pirates game in Tralee being rained off, Abbeyfeale took full advantage to go top with a 17-7 away win over unbeaten Presentation. Michael Roche and Philip Day scored tries for the winners and Tom Hassett converted both and also added a penalty. Shane O’Brien replied with a try for Pres’ and Craig Airey converted.

Kinsale kept their challenge on track with a 34-13 home win over Newport and moved up to second place three points behind the leaders. Adam McCarthy scored two tries for Kinsale and Pat O’Regan and Fergus Gillette got one each. Sean Kingston converted all four and also added two penalties.

In the only other game played in this Division, tries from Peter Coman and Tommy Connolly and a conversion and two penalties by Aidan Dwyer helped Thurles to an 18-14 away win over Ennis. Colm Brandon replied with a try for Ennis and Conor Dolan kicked three penalties.

The top game in Division Three between two of last season’s relegated sides, saw Youghal defeat Crosshaven 12-8. Scott O’Sullivan scored two tries for Youghal and Keith McCarthy kicked a conversion. Mick O’Leary replied with a try for the home side and Ian Smith kicked a conversion.

Killorglin got their campaign off to a winning start with a bonus point 26-12 away win over Scariff. George Evans scored two tries for the Kerry side and Timmy Lynch and Noel O’Reilly got one each. Luke O’Shea added three conversions. Stephen Madden replied with a try for the Clare side, who were also awarded a penalty try and Ger Burke kicked a conversion.
