Junior Rugby Roundup 3rd October

4th October 2010 By Munster Rugby

Presentation won their first Munster trophy with a 30-15 win over Waterford City at Thurles to lift the Martin O’Sullivan Cup.

Mark Phair was Presentation’s hero contributing twenty of his side’s tally. The Limerickside raced into an early 13-0 lead with a try, conversion and two penalties.

WaterfordCity’spreparations before the game were not helped when the bus bringing the team broke down enroute. Lenny Power opened their account with a try before the half time whistle.

The Suirsiders were rocked early in the second half when Kevin Donnelly went in for two tries and Phair converted both and also added two penalties. Waterfordrallied in the final quarter and had a try from Darren Walsh and a conversion and penalty by Aaron Foskin but the gap proved too much for them to close.

Cashel were pushed all the way by Clonmel before booking their place in the final of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup against Crosshaven which will be played in December.

Peter Silke put Cashel ahead with a try after the four minutes and they were never going to lose that lead. Pat O’Connor kicked the conversion and three penalties for a 16-10 half time lead. Conor Cooney replied with a try for the home side and Danny Lyons kicked a conversion and penalty.

O’Connor extended Cashel’s advantage with a penalty, but a try by Phil Corby which Lyonsconverted left two points between the sides. Brendan O’Connor made sure of victory with a try five minutes from time.

A try by Ken O’Donovan converted by O’Driscoll left the home side 10-7 ahead at half time.
