Six of the quarter finalists in this season’s Munster Junior Cup are now known after a few more upsets in the weekend games.

Holders U.L. Bohemian booked their place in the last eight with a convincing 39-12 win over U.C.C. at the Mardyke. Giles Boland, Darren Moroney, Kevin Flannigan, Gary Walsh and Anthony Hartigan all scored tries for the Limerick side and Aidan McNulty added four conversions and two penalties. Johnny Holland replied with four penalties for the home side.

The biggest upset of the day was at Clanwilliam Park when Second Division leaders Clanwilliam defeated First Division leaders Richmond 14-6. James McDermot opened the scoring with a penalty for Richmond but Clanwilliam hit back with a try from Ian Quinlan. A second penalty by McDermot left it 6-5 in the visitors favour at half time.
Three penalties by Willie O’Dwyer saw Clanwilliam advance to the quarter finals.

Muskerry after knocking out Garryowen in the opening round earned a credible 12-12 draw away to Galbally and when replay next Sunday at Ballyanly. Martin Mulvery and Kevin Casey scored tries for Galbally and Liam Casey kicked a conversion. Dave Foley replied with four penalties for the Mid Cork side.

Cashel reached the last eight with a 16-9 home win over Shannon. The visitors raced into an early 6-0 lead with two penalties from Paddy O’Sullivan. Pat O’Connor opened the home side’s account with a penalty after fifteen minutes. Five minutes later O’Sullivan kicked a third penalty for the visitors.
Cashel played their best rugby when they were reduced to fourteen after one of their players was shown a yellow card. A try by Kieran Murphy and a conversion and penalty by O’Connor gave Cashel a 13-9 half time lead. The only score of the second half was a third penalty by O’Connor for the home side.

Skibbereen won the all First Division clash at the West Cork venue with an 18-16 victory over Clonmel. The visitors led 10-6 at half time with a try, conversion and penalty by Danny Lyons to two penalties by Mark Kingston. Skibbereen ran in two tries in the third quarter with Peter Stout and David Shannon touching down and Kingston converted one of the tries. Lyons kept Clonmel in touch with two penalties but missed an effort three minutes from time to win the game.

A John Sheehan penalty had Highfield 3-0 ahead at the interval in their home tie with Old Christians but the visitors hit back with a try from Alan O’Dea and a conversion and two penalties by Aidan Tobin for a 13-3 visitors.

Bruff defeated Youghal 24-0 under the lights of Kilballyowen Park on Friday night. A try by Danny Keogh and a conversion and penalty by Jonathon Ford had the home side 10-0 ahead at the break. John Carroll and Rory O’Connor added further tries and Ford converted both.

The quarter final line up is: – Clanwilliam v Bruff, U.L. Bohemian v Skibbereen, Young Munster v Galbally/Muskerry and Cashel v Crosshaven/Old Christians.

Midleton and Sunday’s Well advanced in the Munster Junior Plate. Midleton defeated Kanturk 25-16 at the Duhallow venue. Two tries by Jamie Gogarty and one each from James Colbert and Charlie Kavanagh and a conversion and penalty by Dan O’Connor saw the East Cork side advance. Simon Mulholland replied with a try for the home side and Peter Earley kicked a conversion and three penalties.

Sunday’s Well defeated Carrick-on-Suir 16-3 with a try by Colin Corkery and a conversion and three penalties by Ian O’Regan. Mickey Cronin scored a penalty for the home side.

Kilfeacle maintained their First Division status in the Munster Junior League with a 22-10 victory over Thurles. A try by Dermot Donovan and a try, conversion and penalty by Shane Luby gave Kilfeacle a 15-0 half time lead. Mick Sheehan and Eoin Dwyer replied with tries for Thurles but a Jack O’Sullivan try and conversion by Luby made sure of the points for Kilfeacle.

Ennis moved off the bottom of the table in the Second Division with a 10-8 home win over St. Mary’s. Jason Considine scored a try for the Clare side and David Murphy kicked a conversion and penalty. Matthew Ryan replied with a try for the Corbally side and Barry Gibbons kicked a penalty.

Presentation opened up the battle for the second spot in Section A of the Third Division with an 11-8 home win over Killarney. Mike Mooney scored a try for the winners and Mark Phayer kicked two penalties. Brian O’Leary replied with a try for the Kerry side and Ciaran O’Grady kicked a penalty.

Abbeyfeale remain in contention after their 29-21 home win over Killorglin. Robert Brown, Tere Vickridge, Kevin Prendiville, Michael Enright and Sean Scannell scored tries for the winners and Brown added two conversions. Kilrush replied with tries from Vivian O’Callaghan and Darren Curtayne and John Ahern kicked three penalties and a conversion.

Scariff won the Clare derby with a 13-10 win over Kilrush. A try by Dave Hartley and a conversion and penalty by Paul Conway had Kilrush 10-5 in front at half time. Colin Bulger scored a try for the East Clare side. A try by Robert Draylan and a drop goal by Robbie Madden secured the points for Scariff.

Charleville have opened up a one point gap in Section B of the Third Division with a 25-0 away win over Douglas. Shane O’Sullivan, Damian Leahy, Frank Holly and Martin O’Neill scored tries for the winners and Holly kicked a conversion and penalty.

Mallow remain in second place after their 23-16 away win over Waterford City. Neil McSherry and Chris O’Regan were among the try scorers for the winners and Brian Morris kicked a penalty, drop goal and a conversion. Liam McCarthy replied with a try for the home side and Aaron Foskin kicked a conversion and three penalties.

Fermoy are two points behind the leaders after their 38-3 home win over Shandon. Peter Stapleton and Olan Crowley scored two tries each for the winners Conor Ahern one. Joe Lee kicked three penalties and two conversions. Barry Leahy replied with a penalty for the visitors.
