Junior Rugby Roundup

It was a disappointing weekend for the two Munster clubs involved in the quarter finals of the All Ireland Junior Cup.

Clonmel lost for the first time this season when Clogher Valley defeated them 31-0 to book their place in the semi finals of the All Ireland Junior Cup.
The visitors had tries from Andy Green, Eugene McKenna and David Sharkey got two. Colm Holmes kicked three conversions.

St Senan’s travelled to Belfast to face Instonians who won 48-14. David Webb and Warren Kelly scored tries for the Clare side and Aidan McMahon converted both.

Newport got their first win in Division Two of the Munster Junior League when they defeated Mallow 12-10 in a game that was played at the UL sports Complex after the Tipperary venue was declared unplayable.
Darragh Ryan and Aidan Ryan scored tries for Newport and Philip O’Brien kicked a conversion. Conor O’Donovan and Jimmy Glynn replied with tries for Mallow.

In Division Three Crosshaven have moved level on points with leaders Youghal after their 12-5 away win at Fethard. Michael Lynch and Dave Walsh scored tries for Crosshaven and Ian Smith kicked a conversion. Conor Kavanagh was Fethard’s try scorer.

Douglas-Carrigaline made it two wins out of two after their 13-10 away win at Killorglin. Dan Cafferkey and Rob O’Donovan scored tries for the visitors and Conor O’Regan kicked a penalty.
James Hayes replied with a try for Killorglin and Luke O’Shea added a conversion and a penalty.

In the top of the table clash in the Dave Walsh Trophy Division 1, Cork Constitution preserved their unbeaten run with a 39-6 win over Young Munster at Temple Hill.
The home side led 15-0 at half time with tries from Shane Daly and Daniel Walsh and a conversion from Jamie Murphy plus a John Poland penalty.
A second Poland penalty had Con’ 18-6 ahead with six minutes remaining but tries from Sean O’Leary, Joe White and Evan Mintern, two of which Poland converted and Murphy one, saw the home side run out comfortable winners.

U.C.C. got their first win of the campaign defeating Sunday’s Well 32-5. Michael Boland and Darragh Dennehy scored two tries each for the students and Rory Colbert got one. Dennehy converted two of the tries and also added a penalty.

In the Junior 2 League South B, Bandon continued their unbeaten run with a 27-17 away win at Kinsale.
Mark Bateman scored two tries for the winners and Ross Bateman and Ryan Hayes one apiece. Billy Crowley converted one and Liam Dempsey added a conversion and a penalty.
Eoghan Kingston and Eoin McCarthy replied with tries for Kinsale. Tim Broderick converted both tries and also added a penalty.

In Section C Highfield and Dolphin continue to battle it out at the top of their section. Highfield defeated Iveragh 53-0 with tries from James Cassidy, Liam Murphy, Paul Jacquesson, Eoghan McNally, Donal Moriarty, Colm Downes, Oisin McSweeney, Ted O’Leary and James Sheehan. Darragh O’Keeffe kicked four conversions.

Dolphin beat Ballincollig 13-5 with two tries from Niall Fahy and a Ronan Devine penalty.

In Section D Mitchelstown continued their unbeaten run with a 36-7 away win over Mallow. Liam Moylan, John Evans, Chris O’Donovan (2), Sean Myers and Mark Kavanagh were Mitchelstown’s try scorers. Jamie O’Gorman kicked two conversions and Sean Molly one.
Peter Cosgrove was Mallow’s try scorer and Sean Ronayne converted.

In the Junior 3 League Charleville defeated Sunday’s Well 18-10.
Simon Hughes put in another top performance for the winners who had tries from Bryan Ruane and Aidan Sheehan, with Ruane converting one and kicking two penalties. Eoin O’Connell replied with two tries for the ‘Well.
