Junior Rugby Round-Up

Charleville have won the Martin O’Sullivan Cup for a third time, as Bandon book their place in the final of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup.

There was a big upset in Fermoy, when Charleville ended Dungarvan’s unbeaten run this season with an 11-6 victory to claim the first Junior Trophy of the season.

A penalty from Shane Corkery in the opening minute gave Charleville an early lead but Seamus Keating had Dungarvan level after eleven minutes.

Charleville responded with a well worked try from Damien Leahy in the corner and a second Keating penalty left it 8-6 in favour of Charleville at half-time.

Despite dominating the second half for long periods Dungarvan were unable to penetrate a solid Charleville defence.

Skibbereen have moved into the top half of the table in Division 1 of the Munster Junior League, after their 23-7 away win over Tralee.

Lorcan Carey, Ritchie Byrne and Ger Hurley were Skibbereen’s try scorers and Hurley added a conversion and two penalties. Mike Mullally kicked three penalties for the Kerry side who still remain second last at the half way stage of the league.

Bandon have booked their place in the final of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Shield after a hard earned 14-12 victory over Thurles under the lights at Old Chapel on Saturday night. Sean Óg Murphy scored a try for Bandon and Richard Walsh kicked three penalties. Thurles replied with four penalties from Aidan Dwyer.
