Junior Rugby Round-Up

With the Junior League due to start in two weeks’ time, action this weekend was confined to local cup competitions.

Clanwilliam and Waterpark will contest the Garryowen Cup final.

Clanwilliam defeated Thurles 25-7 in their semi-final, Darragh Burke scored two tries and a penalty for Clanwilliam and Denis O’Connell also scored a try. Niall Leahy kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Waterpark were 33-17 winners over Waterford City. Scott Hornibrook and Kevin Phelan each scored two tries for the winners and James Pierce contributed a try and four conversions.
Tim Bowe, Michael Hayes and Kevin Whelan replied with tries for Waterford and Hayes also kicked a conversion.

Castleisland won the 2015/16 McElligott Cup Final with a 31-10 win over Killarney.
Kieran Downey, Gary Downey, Colin Stack and CJ O’Sullivan scored tries for Castleisland, who were also awarded a penalty try. Willie Casey converted three of the tries.

Killorglin defeated Tralee 6-0 to win the Galwey Foley trophy.

Muskerry defeated holders Skibbereen 17-3 in the opening round of the Cork County Cup. Tim Keady, George O’Mahony and Lorcan Collins were Muskerry’s try scorers and Ciaran O’Connor kicked a conversion.

Bandon defeated Old Christians 58-7 at Rathcooney.

Crosshaven were 24-5 home winners over Ballincollig in the opening round of the O’Neill Cup. Tomas O’Donovan scored two tries for the winners and Eric Marron and Darren O’Keeffe got one each. Ian Smith kicked two conversions. Mick O’Shea replied with a try for Ballincollig.

Kinsale overcame Mallow 19-9. Cian O’Brien got all the Kinsale scores, a try, a conversion and four penalties.

In the Transfield Cup, Newcastle West defeated Presentation 15-5 and Shannon overcame UL Bohemian 38-25.

Highfield and Cork Constitution will contest this year’s Dennehy Cup Final.

Highfield defeated Cobh Pirates 21-6 with tries from Stephen Crowley and Mark Spillett. Darragh O’Keeffe kicked a conversion and three penalties.

A late try gave Cork Constitution a 23-21 victory over Dolphin at Irish Independent Park.
