Junior Club Roundup

A day of shocks in the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup as Cahel knocked out the holders Shannon and both Waterford City and Dungarvan advance after extra time.

Holders Shannon were sensationally knocked out of the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup, when Cashel came from behind in the last minute with a converted try to defeat them 13-10.

Ryan O’Donnell opened the scoring with a penalty for Cashel but a drop goal by Barry McGrory had the sides level 3-3 at half time.

Ryan O’Donnell restored Cashel’s lead with a penalty but a try from Bobby Price converted by Ciaran Cunnane put the visitors ahead 10-6 until the last play of the game Chris O’Donnell scored a try for Cashel and Ryan O’Donnell converted.

Dungarvan without a league win all season are through to the second round of the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup after their game with Midleton finished level 20-20 after extra time, but the Co. Waterford side advanced on the first try rule.

Tom Keith scored the game’s first try and Stephen Phelan also scored a try for Dungarvan. David Hickey converted both and also kicked two penalties. Luke Deane and Ger White replied with tries for Midleton and Deane added two conversions and two penalties.

It looked like Muskerry were going to advance on the try rule until a last minute penalty from Aaron Foskin gave Waterford City a 15-12 win after extra time.

Muskerry led 7-3 at half time with a try from Liam O’Donovan and converted by Eoin Keohane. Shane Murphy scored a second try for Muskerry, but two penalties from Michael Healy and two from Foskin had the sides level 12-12 after eighty minutes.

Bandon continued their recent good run with a 20-0 home win over Cobh Pirates. It was a scoreless first half and Bandon made most of the wind advantage in the second half when Richard Walsh kicked five penalties and Dan Swittenbank scored a try.

Cork Constitution strolled through to the third round with a 54-8 win over a disappointing U.L. Bohemian side. They led 21-3 at half time and scored eight tries.
