Junior Club Roundup

There were defeats for the unbeaten leaders in Division 1 and 2 of the Munster Junior League as Youghal won the Third Division title.

Clonmel the First Division defending champions lost their unbeaten record at home to bottom side Clonakilty 13-3.
Eoin O’Neill opened the scoring with a try for Clonakilty which Mark Purcell converted. Conor Cooney kicked a penalty for Clonmel on thirty eight minutes but Purcell replied immediately with a penalty for the west Cork side for a 10-3 half time lead.
Two minutes into the second half Purcell kicked another penalty and Clonakilty were deserving winners.

Bandon took full advantage with a 13-10 home win over Muskerry to send them three points clear at the top ahead of Clonmel.
Bandon led 13-3 at half time with a try by Kieran Essex and a conversion and two penalties by Richard Walsh. Eoin Keohane kicked a penalty for the visitors. A try by Dave Hennessy and converted by Jonathan Buckley in the final minute earned Muskerry a losing bonus point.

Richmond are still in the hunt for the title after their 14-7 home win over Kilfeacle.
They currently trail the leaders by nine points but have two games in hand on Bandon, one of them being away to Clonmel next Sunday.
A try by Isaco Peato and converted by Gavin Heuston put Kilfeacle ahead 7-0. A penalty try on the stroke of half time converted by Brian Mullins had the sides level 7-7. Corey Wells put Richmond ahead with a try and Mullins converted.

Galbally have assured themselves of a top four finish after their narrow 13-12 away win over Clanwilliam. Stephen Hayes and Ray Ford scored tries for Galbally and Jack O’Mullane kicked a penalty. Bryan O’Rahelly and Kieran Merrigan replied with tries for Clanwilliam and Niall Leahy added a conversion.

St Mary’s eased their relegation worries with a 21-5 home win over Skibbereen. Eoin O’Byrne and Matthew Hickey scored tries for the Saints and Sean Lyons kicked a conversion and two penalties. Kieran Shannon replied with a try for Skibb’.

Old Christians are now at the foot of the table after their 29-17 home defeat by Newcastle West. Donal O’Sullivan scored two tries for the west Limerick side and Richard Langford, Sean Corbett and Dave Foley got one each. Sean Herlihy kicked two conversions. Jeff Hodder, Mark Gleeson and Cian Smith were Christians try scorers and Sean Meaney added a conversion.

Waterpark are also in serious trouble of being relegated following their 17-11 away defeat by St. Senan’s.
Waterpark who led 11-5 after forty five minutes with a try by Bill Connors and two John Flynn penalties. Warren Kelly, Brian Collins and Emile Maffat replied with tries for Senan’s and Tim Cronin kicked a conversion.

Cobh Pirates ended Abbeyfeale’s unbeaten record in the Second Division with a 15-8 win, but a last minute penalty by Steve Daly which earned Abbeyfeale a losing bonus point could be what decides who wins the Second Division title. Alan Langford, Lee McCarthy and Jack Hickey scored tries for Cobh and Michael Enright replied with a try for Abbeyfeale.

Thurles the only side that can catch the top two had their came away to Newport postponed because of a water logged pitch.

Dungarvan remain rooted to the bottom of the table after their 10-9 home defeat by Tralee. Martin Stack and TJ O’Sullivan were Tralee’s try scorers and David Hickey kicked three penalties for Dungarvan.

Ennis seven points above Dungarvan occupy the other relegation place after their 18-5 away defeat by Ballincollig. Dave Power and Barry Attridge scored tries for Ballincollig and Charlie Boland kicked a conversion and two penalties. Cian Nugent replied with a try for Ennis.
Mallow three points ahead of Tralee lost away to Kinsale 23-6.

Waterford City who have yet to taste defeat this calendar year were 19-6 away winners over Presentation. Michael Hayes got all the winners scores, a try, conversion and four penalties. Shane O’Brien replied with two penalties for Presentation.

Charleville eased their relegation worries with a 15-5 home win over Castleisland. Ger Sheehan and Eoin McMahon scored tries for the North Cork side and Shane O’Sullivan added a conversion and a penalty. John McCarthy was Castleisland’s try scorer.

Youghal were crowned Third Division champions after their 45-3 home win over Killorglin with a game in hand. Alan Frahill O’Connor scored two tries for the winners and Mike Healy, Keith McCarthy, Adam Malone, Ian Broderick and Ross Cashman got one each. McCarthy kicked three conversions and Aaron Daly two. Luke O’Shea kicked a penalty for the visitors.

Crosshaven’s who started the weekend in pole position had their hopes of winning the title dashed when they lost their final game 17-13 to Killarney. Stephen Curran and Peter O’Leary scored tries for Crosshaven and Ian Smith kicked a penalty.

Fermoy finished in third place after their 31-21 home win over Chorca Dhuibhne. The winners who led 24-7 at half time with tries from Peter Skuse, John McCarthy, Tom Murphy and Eric Stapleton. Dylan Lacey kicked two conversions and Kieran Collins replied with a try for the Kerry Gaeltacht side which Seamus Moriarty converted.
McCarthy scored his second try for Fermoy and Lacey converted and Shane Griffin and Alan Devane had tries for Chorca Dhuibhne with Moriarty converting both.

Fethard were 28-16 home winners over Douglas-Carrigaline. Patrick Cuddy, Alan O’Connor, Declan Daly and Kieran Power were Fethard’s try scorers. Daly added two penalties and a conversion.
Dave O’Donoghue replied with a try for the visitors and Conor O’Regan converted and added three penalties.
