Ireland Women Lose At Twickenham

Ireland women suffered a 17-10 defeat to England today at Twickenham in their bid to retain the Grand Slam Championship title.

England No. 8 Sarah Hunter opened the score-line with a try after the 7th minute which saw captain Katy Mclean convert for a 7-0 lead.

A penalty kick from Munster full-back Niamh Briggs followed on the 25 minute bringing the score to 7-3.

Five minutes later scrum-half Larissa Muldoon crashed over the England line for Ireland’s only try in the match. Briggs added the extras giving her side a 10-7 advantage.

Ireland took a set-back on the stroke of half-time when winger Kay Wilson touched down for England’s second try which Mclean failed to convert.

England’s Marlie Packer claimed her side's third try and the last score of the match after the 50 minute mark. Mclean again failed to add the extras finishing up 17-10 to the hosts.
