Interpro Round-Up

Interpro Round-Up

Having won seven of their first eight Interpro games, Munster’s four underage sides are all in with a chance of claiming silverware as they head into the final round of matches.

All four teams finish their campaigns away from home however, with three of the clashes in Leinster.

The Munster U20/Development side recorded a thrilling win over Ulster on Friday night in Thomond Park.

Colm McMahon's side showed incredible character after being held scoreless in the first half as Ulster built up an 18-0 lead.

Captain Colm Hogan touched down twice in the second half though with flanker Gavin Coombes also crossing.

Out-half Conor Fitzgerald kicked all three conversions to clinch an incredible victory. The U20s travel to Leinster on Friday night for their final game.

There were mixed results in the double-header against Ulster in CIT on Saturday as the U18 Schools team beat their northern counterparts 19-13 while the U19s went down to a 15-13 defeat.

The Schools side made it three wins from three thanks to first-half tries from centre Sean French (two) and Bandon Grammar prop Travis Coomey along with two Ben Healy conversions.

They travel to Leinster in two weeks hoping to complete a clean sweep.

A late Jack O’Sullivan try, converted by David McCarthy, wasn’t enough to prevent the Munster U19s from slipping to their first defeat (15-13) against Ulster.

James Taylor had kicked Munster into a 6-5 half-time lead but the visitors proved too strong in the second half as the U19s, who beat Connacht 35-0 in their first outing, round off their campaign away to Leinster on Saturday.

The U18 Clubs side remain on course for the title after their 15-3 win over Leinster in Thomond Park on Sunday.
Evan O’Gorman and Ikem Ugwuru were the try-scorers, Harry Byrne kicked a conversion and Conor Hayes kicked a late penalty as the Munster U18 Clubs beat the visitors for the first time in eight years.

Having won 19-14 in Ulster in their first clash of the campaign, Munster travel to the Sportsground on Saturday to face Connacht in a title decider (KO 2.30pm).
