Important Wins For Shannon & Young Munster

Young Munster continued their great run under David Corkery with an away win over Terenure, while at Coonagh Shannon staged a great second half revival to beat Dolphin.

At Lakelands Park Young Munster defeated Terenure 26-8 in Division 1A. The Cookies did all the damage in the opening half as they led 26-3 at the interval.
Gearoid Lyons and Ben Kilkenny scored tries for the winners, Lyons kicked two conversions and three penalties and Paul Downes added a penalty.

UCD have gone top in this Division after their 13-6 win over Garryowen at Dooradoyle.
It was former Garryowen player, Jamie Glynn, and one steeped in the history of the Limerick club with his father, Liam and grandfather, all being heavily involved, scored a late try to ensure a UCD win at Dooradoyle.
The try was somewhat controversial and that it seemed that the ball had been knocked on but in any event that came in the 79th minute by which stage UCD led 8-3.
Garryowen were first off the mark with a Neil Cronin penalty after six minutes but when the home side were penalised for offside in front of their own posts, Ross Byrne, levelled matters.
Against the run of play Garryowen found themselves in front 6-3 at the interval thanks to a second Cronin penalty.
UCD remained in control but had to wait until the 67th minute to get in front. Garryowen were penalised for not releasing and UCD opted to kick to touch. From a close-in rolling maul hooker Sean McNulty got the touchdown to be followed by Glynn's insurance try.

It was a second successive defeat for Cork Constitution as they lost 19-17 away to Old Belvedere.
The home side led 11-7 at half time with Niall Kenneally scoring Con’s try and Tomas Quinlan converting.
Late tries from Daniel Walsh and Darren Sweetnam helped Con’ to a losing bonus point.

On a vile weather afternoon at Coonagh Shannon managed to score four tries and were awarded a penalty try as they trounced Dolphin 30-19.
Richie Mullane swept in for the opening Shannon try after only four minutes but Cillian O’Keeffe made it all square with his touchdown.
Dolphin, playing against the very strong wind, hit the front with a try by Shane McAuliffe after 28 minutes which Daryl Foley converted.
Just on halftime Shannon had a second try when Simon Malone got over.
A minute into the second half Tadhg Bennett slotted a penalty into the wind to put Shannon back in front 13-12 but Dolphin's Barry Fitzgerald raced clear after an intercept and again Foley converted.
It was Shannon's turn after 64 minutes when Stephen Fitzgerald timed his pass to perfection to send Will Leonard over.
Five minutes from the end Shannon were awarded a penalty try which Bennett converted and just at the end David O'Donovan had Shannon's fifth try of a satisfactory afternoon for the club.

Ballymena defeated U.L. Bohemian 15-6 at Eaton Park. Rick McKenna kicked two first half penalties for the Limerick side.

In Division 2A Banbridge are the new leaders after their 28-5 home win over Cashel.

U.C.C. continued their revival with a 31-9 away win over Galway Corinthians. Chris McAuliffe, Rob O’Donovan, Ben Burns and Paul Kiernan all scored tries for the students. Kevin O’Keeffe kicked three penalties and a conversion.

Thomond lost at home to Naas 29-10 with Eoin O’Carroll and David O’Halloran scoring tries for the Limerick men.

Nenagh Ormond moved off the foot off the table with a 38-24 home win over Skerries.
Kolio Hifo was the hero of this win scoring three tries and a conversion. Derek Corcoran, Michael Walsh and Kevin Seymour also scored tries. Jack Molamphy kicked three conversions.

Highfield suffered a setback in Division 2B when they lost away to Rainey Old Boys 18-13.
Fintan O’Sullivan scored two tries for Highfield and a last minute penalty from Dylan Horgan secured a losing bonus point for the Cork side.

Sunday’s Well defeated fellow promotion challengers City of Armagh 19-15 to move into third place.
Eoin Geary scored an intercept try for the ‘Well and Shane O’Riordan kicked a conversion and four penalties.

Old Crescent extended their lead at the top of Division 2B with a 29-18 away win over bottom side Dundalk.

Bruff have moved into third place after their 19-0 home win over Sligo.
Brian Cahill scored two tries for the winners and Paudie Kilcoyne one. Tony Cahill converted two of the tries.

Two second half tries from Aidan McCarthy both converted by Stuart Lee gave Midleton a 14-13 away win over Navan.

Kanturk defeated Boyne 27-17. Dan McCabe scored two tries for the Duhallow side and Ben Martin contributed a try, three conversions and two penalties.
