Highfield Women in Search of All Ireland Cup Glory

Highfield Women’s team will travel to Dublin to take on Galwegians in the All Ireland Cup Final, this Saturday the 24th of March at St. Mary’s College RFC, Templeville Road, Kick off 2.30pm.

Highfield were defeated by Clonmel when they last reached this stage of the competition in 2007 and this year they are confident they can go all the way.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s challenge, Highfield Captain, Chris Fanning, said, “We are delighted to be in this year’s AIL Cup Final as it is an extremely competitive competition. We have a squad of about 24 players who have been training hard since Christmas. The contribution of the whole squad has been instrumental in getting us through the qualifying rounds. We went out in the semi final to Cooke last year so we are delighted to take it one step further.”

Commenting on their opposition, Fanning said, “We have met them numerous times over the years in both league and cup matches. Both teams are very familiar with each other and it goes without saying that we have the upmost respect for them. Like us they are a very committed club team and I’ve no doubt the final will be a close and exciting encounter.”

Highfield last won the cup in 2005, when they defeated Boyne RFC in extra time. A number of the existing squad played in that final, including their coach Norita Duggan, who is hoping to guide the team to victory on Saturday.

Galbally and UL Bohemians also meet at Templeville Road, this Saturday where they will contest for the Women's All Ireland Plate. Kick off, 2pm.
