Glenstal & PBC Claim Wins In Junior Cup

Glenstal Abbey School and Presentation Brothers College claimed round one victories in the Munster Schools Junior Cup.

Glenstal Abbey School 14, Castletroy College 0.
A superb performance by fullback Ronan Quinn inspired Glenstal to victory in the Munster Schools Junior Cup at Dooradoyle.
In the first half Quinn made three superb breaks and fittingly he was rewarded with his sides opening try early in the second half.
He sprinted from halfway after his forwards had overturned possession in their own half to lead 7-0.
Back row Padraic Mulligan scored their second try and Andrew Hogan converted both in what was a surprise result.

St Clement’s College 5, PBC 48
PBC have qualified for the third round of the Munster Schools Junior Cup as they recorded a landslide victory over St Clement’s College at Rosbrien.

Pres’ had 19 points on the board after ten minutes with tries from Andrew Geaney O’Brien, Niall Murphy and Brian Lynch. Two of these tries were converted by Murphy.

Mark McLaughlin scored the Mardyke College’s fourth try midway through the opening half. Liam Ryan was credited with a pushover try from a driving maul following a penalty approaching the break. Murphy added his third conversion to give Pres’ a 31-0 interval lead.

Pres’ continued to have ‘Clement’s pinned back for most of the second half as Ryan scored his second pushover try following a scrum deep inside the Limerick College’s 22. Murphy followed it up with his fourth conversion.

Colm Morey and Joe O’Leary scored tries for Pres’ in the final quarter.

St Clement’s were awarded a penalty deep inside the Pres’ 22 from which they opted for a quick tap. Alex Kiely crashed over in the corner for the Limerick College’s only try with time at a premium.
