Coach Development Update

The Munster Rugby Coach Development Department are currently delivering their annual IRFU coaching courses around the province.

A number of courses for different stages of coach development have already taken place throughout Munster.

To date this season, two stage 1 courses, a stage 2, and a stage 3 course have been delivered over the past six weeks and they continue with a stage 1 course this weekend in Tralee, which is fully booked.

The stage 2 course in the MRSC Bar in Thomond Park next weekend (Friday and Saturday, October 7-8) has three spaces available. This course is designed to enhance coaches' knowledge and understanding of the game and is relevant to those coaching at U13 to U16 level.

There are also space available on the East Munster Stage 1 course in Clonmel RFC on Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th of October.

The stage 1 course last week in LIT was very well attended. The coaches were delivered modules on LTPD (Long Term Player Development) as well as role of the coach and effective coaching strategies.

On Saturday the majority of the day was spent on the practical elements of the game incorporating the General Movement concept. It was a very productive course which concluded with a trip next door to watch the Munster v Edinburgh game.

Also next week the IRFU Referee Department will run affiliated referee courses in Cork (Irish Independent Park) and Limerick (Young Munster RFC). Both courses take place at 7pm on Wednesday, October 5. Details on affiliated refereeing can be found here.

Trevor Collins and Peter Fitzgibbon will be delivering the workshops with both commencing at 7pm. There are some spaces available and if you are interested in attending please email info@munsterrugby.ie to register your place. The IRFU concussion awareness workshops continue in Tralee IT (North Campus) on Wednesday, October 12, at 7.30pm and the following evening (Thursday, October 13) in Clanwilliam FC at 7pm with Shane Mooney again on hand to present. These are also a pre-registration events. Please contact janeburns@munsterrugby.ie if you wish to attend.
