Breaking Barriers Rugby Blitz

Munster Regeneration Community Rugby Officers Andy Brace and Ross Callaghan recently held a ‘Breaking Barriers’ Leprechaun Rugby Blitz for boys and girls at Garryowen F.C.

A total of eleven teams participated from the Limerick Southside and Northside Garda Projects, After School Projects, Youth Clubs, School Teams and Local Rugby Club sides.

This initiative provided youths between the ages of 9 and15 from a wide range of rugby abilities and backgrounds with a fun and positive experience of rugby as well as giving them the opportunity to mix and build relationships with one another.

The main focus was to bring clubs and communities together; city wide, through an enjoyable environment and it was clear throughout the day that this was a big step in the right direction.

Kieran Ryan of the Limerick Regeneration Agency supported this programme leading up to the event and throughout the running of it. He kindly organised for the winning team to attend Munster’s Magners League clash against Connacht later that evening which went to C.B.S. Scoil Iosagain National School who narrowly beat Garryowen by one point in the final.

Munster Rugby would like to thank the students of the Southside Community Leadership Arts and Sports Programme. The students who have spent the last six months developing their knowledge of the game gave their input in supporting the referees in scoring each game. Thanks also to the coaches, teachers and supervisors of the teams on the day ensuring its success.
