Big Success At Sciath Na Scol

Irish Independent Park hosted the Sciath na Scol for the first time last week with the event proving a huge success.

Over 10,000 cheering supporters attended the hurling and camogie finals over the three days in the home of Munster Rugby in Cork with over 500 children playing on the immaculate playing surface.

Some fantastic games were played out by the schools from all over Cork with the whole event running very smoothly.

Sciath na Scol is a schools-based organisation which organises Gaelic games in the primary schools of Cork city and county. There are over 400 schools affiliated in the various codes, catering for 7,000 children annually.

The event represents a huge week of primary school GAA activities with over 1,400 children playing and 109 teachers directly involved with the children. This year, 26 finals were played in three brand new venues – Irish Independent Park, CIT and Nemo Rangers GAA Club.

Munster completed their regular season games at the recently refurbished with a bonus-point win over
Newport Gwent Dragons and the break in the stadium's rugby calendar has seen it host the Sciath na Scol finals with an open-air concert featuring Katherine Jenkins & Jose Carreras coming up on Saturday, June 20. Tickets here.
