Bad day for Munster clubs in IRFU Ulster Bank League

16th January 2011 By Munster Rugby

Nenagh Ormond were the only Munster club to win in Saturday’s rearranged league games.

U.C.C. have slipped to the bottom of Division 1B as Galwegians moved above them on points difference with a 13-6 win at Crowley Park. Andrew Burke kicked two penalties for the students.

Old Crescent remain in relegation trouble in Division 2 after a heavy 37-3 away defeat at Belfield by U.C.D. The Dublin students have now moved into second place a point behind leaders Ballynahinch. Fergal Lawlor was the Limerick side’s scorer with a penalty.

Nenagh Ormond collected maximum points for the second successive week with a 36-5 home win over Ards in Division Three, a result that sees them get back into a challenging position for promotion. Stephen Carey, David Corcoran, Martin Brislane, Keith Quigley, Darren Horan and Trevor Connolly scored tries for the winners. David Delaney kicked two conversions and Donal Fogarty one.

In an exciting game at Shaws Bridge Instonians maintained their unbeaten record and moved back to the top of the table with a narrow 19-16 win over Sunday’s Well. A defeat that sees the Cork side slip down the table. The ‘Well raced into a 10-0 lead with a try by Chris Spearman and a conversion and penalty by Danny O’Shea. However the Ulster side drew level at half time. O’Shea added two penalties for the ’Well but three penalties by Scott Browne saw Instonians pick up the points.

The Highfield NUMI Barnhall tie at Woodleigh Park was postponed due to waterlogged pitch.
