Avonmore SuperMilk Munster Schools Junior Cup

Castletroy College have setup a meeting with Rockwell next week after their victory in the opening round of the Avonmore SuperMilk Munster Schools Junior Cup.

Castletroy College 13, St Clement's College 3
Castletroy College emerged winners of this mudfest at Rosbrien which was played in torrential rain and strong wind which effectively ensured that there would be few passages of flowing rugby.

St Clements played with the wind in the opening half and their early dominance led to them going in front with a penalty after ten minutes by Conor Redmond.

Both sides fluffed drop goal attempts and gradually the Castletroy forwards gained control and at one stage they drove the opposition twenty metres. This led to a penalty and from 35 metres Conor Linehan found the target despite the swirling breeze to tie it up.

The nearest to a first half try came just at the end but a knock-on denied Castletroy on the Clement’s line.
Three minutes into the second half Linehan landed his second penalty, this time from 25 metres and in front of the posts and from then to the end Castletroy were so much on top that St Clement's did not get into their half even once.

But they had to wait until five minutes from the end to get the only try. Fittingly outstanding fly half Linehan was involved and it was his pass that sent Eoin Fitzgerald over and the number 10 converted.

Linehan had an excellent partner in scrum half Rory Cunningham and in their pack Fitzgerald, Shane O'Hara and Ronan Murphy impressed.

For the Mike Lynch coached St Clement's side, Kristian Burchardt, Mark O'Callaghan and Karl Madden (forwards) and Jack Broderick, Steve Ogee, and Declan Browne caught the eye behind the scrum.
