AIB All Ireland Cup Roundup

Only three Munster sides are through to the quarter finals of the AIB All Ireland Cup after the weekend’s third round.

Cork Constitution were deserving 33-14 winners over Shannon at Temple Hill.
The home side played with the elements in the opening half and were 10-0 ahead after five minutes with a penalty, try and conversion from Richard Lane.
A penalty on twenty three minutes by Lane was followed minutes later by a try by Tim Kenneally which Lane converted. Lane brought his tally to twenty with his second try and a drop goal by out half Darragh Lyons had Con’ 28-0 ahead at the break.
Shannon showed they were not going to lie down and rocked the home side with a try by winger Richie Mullane converted by Tadgh Bennett two minutes into the second half.
Stephen Kelly touched down for Shannon on fifty five minutes but the score was disallowed for an infringement.
A yellow card to Tadgh Bennett mid way through the half ended any hopes of a Shannon come back.
Kenneally scored his second try eight minutes from time after an initial break by Simon Zebo but Kelly was not to be denied his try as he touched down for the visitors with two minutes remaining and Bennett converted.

Garryowen got back to winning ways after a series of recent defeats with a 19-3 win over St. Mary’s College at Dooradoyle. The home side led 16-3 at half time with a penalty try and a conversion and three penalties from Gerry Hurley to a penalty by Gavin Dunne. Hurley kicked his fourth penalty after the break.

Dolphin bounced back to winning ways after last week’s first defeat of the season with a 28-7 away win over Belfast Harlequins. The Cork side led 8-0 at half time with a try from Barry O’Mahony and a penalty by skipper Barry Keeshan. Niall O’Driscoll and Rory Kenneally added further tries for the visitors after the break and Keeshan converted both and also added a further two penalties.
