Munster Rugby are pleased to announce that Aware has been selected as one of the province’s nominated charities for the 2025/26 season.

Over the season Munster Rugby will work closely with Aware, actively supporting them in helping raise awareness and funds for much-needed resources that are widely availed of across the province and throughout Ireland.

Aware is a national organisation providing a wide range of free Support, Therapy, Education, and Information services for people (18+) impacted by depression, bipolar and other mood related conditions.

Aware was founded in 1985 by a team of volunteers, many of whom had their own experience of depression or bipolar, and who wanted to support others. It has since grown from a single support group to a nationwide organisation, supporting up to 40,000 people annually.

In Munster, Aware offers weekly in-person Support & Self-Care groups in Cork City, Limerick City, Waterford City and Tralee, as well as online groups each day. The Aware Support Line is available 365 days a year, and a variety of education programmes are available throughout the year.

Aware joined Munster players JJ Hanrahan, Jeremy Loughman and Shay McCarthy at the University of Limerick training base last month to launch the partnership.

Commenting on the partnership, CEO of Aware Stephen Butterly said: “This partnership is a wonderful opportunity to help many more people living in Munster and following Munster Rugby to become familiar with our vital free mental health services and how they or a family member may benefit from our support.

“Each year, we support up to 40,000 people. That’s more than both Munster Rugby stadia at full capacity. No-one is immune to experiencing a mental health challenge or condition, but support is available every day at Aware.”

On announcing Aware as one of Munster Rugby’s nominated charities for season 2025/26, Seán McMahon, Munster Rugby Head of Communications said: “We are delighted to have Aware on board as one of our nominated charities for the year ahead in what is our 16th season coordinating the Munster Rugby nominated charity partnership.

“It doesn’t matter whether you’re a player on the pitch or a supporter in the stands, everyone knows someone who has been impacted by mental health challenges.

“With people in Ireland now facing so many different pressures, we are proud to promote Aware’s vital services and supports throughout the season.”
