British and Irish Cup Action This Sunday

In the British and Irish Cup Munster A travel to Huddersfield this weekend in taking on Yorkshire Carnegie on Sunday at 3pm in what could well decide the Pool 3 standings.

Carnegie will take confidence from their double-header victories over London Scottish and will look to continue their good form at home to Munster A who recorded a round 2 victory against the English Championship side in Kinsale RFC in November.

In looking ahead to the encounter we caught up with Munster A Head Coach Mick O’Driscoll.

Commenting on the opposition and the first meeting of the sides last November O’Driscoll said, “They missed a few kicks early on in Kinsale and they were unlucky not to register those scores to be honest.  If they had gone over it certainly would have been a different game.

“They’re a very good side, a big side, and they have a strong scoring platform through the effective use of their maul.

“It’s going to be a difficult ask this weekend and with the European game, various injuries and so on we are going to see a change in personnel for the return fixture.

“I think once again we’ll have a good mix of players, maybe more of a young side on this occasion with five or six guys hopefully getting their first run at British and Irish Cup rugby so that’s going to be an opportunity for guys to step up.

“A lot of our guys have been playing All Ireland League in the last few weeks and it’s been going well so it’ll be good to put them in at this level now and see how they get on.  Peter McCabe was also back at the weekend with his club side Dolphin and hopefully we can see him involved this weekend.

“Overall we should have a good side but we know we’ll be up against a very big pack and that’s always a challenge.”

With both sides recording three victories in the opening four rounds Yorkshire Cargnegie currently top Pool 3 on 16 points with Munster A a point behind in second place.
