Getting To Know Cian Bohane

Following the rehabilitation of a knee injury sustained during last season’s pre-season encounter with London Irish at the Waterford RSC, Cian Bohane now prepares for a return to competitive action in Season 2015/16.

A graduate of the Munster Academy, the former Presentation Brothers College player also represented the province at U19 and U20 before making his British & Irish Cup debut for Munster ‘A’ against Plymouth Albion in October 2012, playing the full 80. Impressing in a further three B&I Cup appearances that season, he won his first PRO12 cap against Zebre the following May.

In progressing steadily, the Dolphin clubman started every game for Munster ‘A’ in the 2013/14 B&I Cup – the province exiting at the quarter-final stages – and made his second league appearance against Edinburgh that September.

In August of last year the Cork native displayed his versatility in impressing for a Munster 7s side at the Limerick World Club 7s in Thomond Park and later in the month was named as a starter in Anthony Foley’s first two matchday squads – against Gloucester and London Irish in 2014/15 pre-season action.

It would be a pre-season of contrasting fortunes for Bohane, crossing for a try at Kingsholm against the Cherry & Whites, only to rupture both his anterior cruciate ligament and posterolateral corner against London Irish at the Waterford RSC the following week – an injury that saw him miss the remainder of the competitive season.

Since then, the 23 year old has worked tirelessly alongside the Munster medical staff in rehabbing his knee in time for the new season. The centre also signed a two-year contract extension in January – remaining at development status for 2015/16 and advancing to full contract status up until June 2017.
