Guinazu Looking Forward To Saturday

The build-up to a Super Saturday of Guinness PRO12 action continues and Munster hooker Eusebio Guinazu expects another physical battle on the field of play in front of, what he hopes will be, a large home crowd at Irish Independent Park.

With lessons learnt from last weekend’s 23-23 draw away to Ulster, the Argentinian international has his sights firmly fixed on Newport-Gwent Dragons this weekend.

“It was a bittersweet feeling at the end of the game, we played well but to give away that last try was disappointing. That draw instead of the win puts a bit more pressure on us this weekend but there’s no point looking in the past, we need to concentrate on what’s ahead and that starts with Dragons.

“This will be another tough match, especially after such a physical test away at Ulster last weekend. Dragons are a really good side, they reached a European semi-final and have been playing really well recently so they will be a big test for us. But we are fully focused and we know what we have to do on the field, and the results that may need to go our way, if we are to achieve a home semi-final.”

When asked if this weekend’s race for a home semi-final brings added pressure, Guinazu commented,

“The pressure is always there but as players we need to stay focused on our jobs on the field and what we need to do to win the game.

“Pressure may be there, but for me personally, I’m more looking forward to it – I can’t wait for Saturday. It’s a massive game and I want to get out there and hopefully have that feeling after the game that the job is done.

“The most we can do to make that happen is focus on our jobs and put in as good a performance as we can against an excellent Dragons side. Hopefully then the result will follow and other results will go our way.

“To get to play a home semi-final would be massive for us. Fans have already been amazing this season and to have that kind of support behind us in the play-offs would be a great advantage. For me personally, it would be really special to play in a home semi-final at Thomond Park.”

Therefore, with so much at stake this weekend, the hooker is calling on all fans to show their support in helping Munster make the most of home advantage this weekend.

“That again would be a massive help. Hopefully it will be a full house and we can get everyone behind us. Large vocal support is great to push on any team and we hope to have just that here in Cork on Saturday.”
