Squad Update

The Munster players gathered in their respective centres in Cork and Limerick today. A number of knocks and bruises were reported following Saturday’s win over Edinburgh and with no competitive action this weekend, players will use the time to work closely with physio and S&C staff in preparation for the next round of the PRO12.

Munster return to league action on April 25thagainst Benetton Treviso at Irish Independent Park.

The immediate focus for coaching staff this week is Munster’s ‘A’ interprovincial against the Ulster Ravens in Banbridge this coming Thursday at 5pm. ‘A’ Head Coach Mick O’Driscoll will name his side to face the Ravens on Wednesday.

This week’s training schedule also sees Franco Ascione, Technical Director of the Italian Rugby Federation, spend a couple of days with the squad, sharing a number of his insights with the Munster coaching staff.

There was good news for Cathal Sheridan who played his first rugby in almost five months following his rehabilitation of a forearm injury. The 26 year old featured for UL Bohs in their 24-19 victory over Corinthians in the final weekend of the AIL.

Other players released to play AIL action last weekend included Neil Cronin (Garryowen), Luke O’Dea (Shannon), Kevin O’Byrne (UL Bohs) and Niall Scannell (Dolphin) with Scannell touching down for the Cork outfit in their Division 1A loss to St. Mary’s College.

A large number of Academy representatives also lined out for their respective clubs this weekend – Cork Con: Darren Sweetnam and Max Abbott, Dolphin: Rory Scannell and John Madigan, Young Munster: Gearoid Lyons and Dan Goggin, UL Bohs: Jack O’Donoghue and David Johnston, and Garryowen: Alex Wootton and Jamie Glynn.
