Munster Show Resolve

Munster returned to winning ways in the Magners League tonight in Thomond Park defeating Edinburgh 23-13.

An injury time Doug Howlett try had Munster and Edinburgh tied 13-13 at half time in Thomond Park Stadium.

Munster trailed before that stage after Tim Visser had split the Munster defence in a move that ended with a try from Geoff Cross that Chris Paterson converted.

Paterson had opened the scoring with a 2nd minute penalty that Ronan O'Gara equalised three minutes later.

Munster took the lead when Tony Buckley crashed over beside the corner flag in the 15th minute, O'Gara pulling his touchline conversion across the posts.

O'Gara kicked Munster ahead with a penalty 5 minutes after the return before Doug Howlett further extended the lead with his second try of the night after 65 minutes, and with O'Gara adding the final points Munster secured a 23-13 victory over the Scottish side.

Man of the match James Coughlan after the win “Our set piece in general was good and overall we're pleased with that.  We didn't become bad scummagers overnight so we knew that performance was in us. It was good to get the win and get back on the horse so to speak.  We're at the top of the league but we just need to keep on winning and we'll look to our next game against Aironi on Sunday now.”
