Academy Scrum Down With All Blacks Coach

All Blacks scrum coach Mike Cron is spending this week in Munster working with his Munster counterpart Paul McCarthy and the Munster Rugby Academy and sub Academy players.

Cron, who recently extended his contract with the NZRU until 2011 has been coaching since 1982 and been an NZRU resource coach since 2004.

As an NZRU resource coach he works with all New Zealand's national teams, including the All Blacks, Junior All Blacks, New Zealand Under 20, Black Ferns and New Zealand Sevens teams.

He also works with New Zealand's Super 14 teams, Air New Zealand Cup and Provincial Union academy teams, New Zealand Schools and New Zealand Under 17S, and is a tutor on the NZRU's High Performance coach development courses and the NZRU/Massey University Rugby Coaching Practicum.

He arrived in Ireland on Tuesday and spent Wednesday morning working with Paul McCarthy facilitating a scrum clinic for Academy, sub Academy and Under-age grade players in CIT.  The main purpose of his visit is to impart his knowledge to the next generation of Munster rugby players.

The invitation was promoted by the Provincial Team Managment and fully supported by McCarthy who said. “I think it's a brilliant and progressive initiative that can only be of benefit for all those who will be involved with one of the best scrum technicians in world rugby.”
