Quinlan Set For 200th Cap

Alan Quinlan will win his 200th competitive Munster cap when he leads the Munster team out tomorrow night for their clash with Magners League title holders The Ospreys at Thomond Park Stadium.

Quinlan who celebrated his 36th birthday in July becomes just the second Munster player to achieve that goal and is set to create a new record for appearances – Anthony Foley won 201 – in the red jersey that may never be surpassed.

And it's his passion for that jersey that has kept Quinlan, now in his 15th season of professional rugby at the top according to Mick Galwey (the first Munster player to win 100 caps), ” I remember when he started first. His first game in fact, his first few games and then his first Heineken Cup, “Galwey recalls, his face creasing with a grin, ” I could see it meant so much to him and even to this day I can still see that putting on the Munster jersey means so much to Alan.

” That’s the reason he’s still there. He doesn’t take it for granted. We always said that any day ye pull on a Munster jersey is a great day and Quinny would always be thinking along those lines.”

Tomas O'Leary is the only change to the Munster backline, from the side that started against Edinburgh, while up front, Munster start this game with the front five that finished against Edinburgh and the same back-row that started in Murrayfield.

Ospreys are expected to start Tommy Bowe tomorrow night along with Welsh internationals Alun Wyn Jones, Ian Evans and Paul James.

Munster: F Jones; D Howlett, J Murphy, S Tuitupou, I Dowling; P Warwick, T O'Leary; M Horan, D Fogarty, J Hayes; D O'Callaghan, D Ryan; A Quinlan, N Ronan, D Leamy capt. Replacements: D Varley,W du Preez, T Buckley, B Holland,P O'Mahony, P Stringer, R O'Gara, D Barnes.
