Meet Justin Melck

He played in the 2004 Under 21 World Cup in England at the same time as current teammates, Tomas O’leary and Denis Fogarty, went on to gain 13 Super 14 caps with The Stormers while a regular with Western Province and last month arrived in Ireland to take up a short term contract with Munster.

The 25 year old saw action within days of his arrival making his debut off the bench against London Irish and last weekend made his Magners League debut, again as a replacement, in the game against Edinburgh at Murrayfield.

Favourite Food: Mom’s Sunday lunch. 

Book you are currently reading or have just finished:   Shantaram, by Gregory David Roberts. 

Favourite TV programme: Mostly Sports programmes.   

Favourite Film:  The Castle. 

Most enjoyable holiday location:  Getting away up the west coast, about 2 hours from Cape Town.

 Favourite sport other than rugby:   Golf. 

The sport you least like:  Show jumping is a bit boring.                         

 Person you would most like to meet:   Richard Branson .       

The sports person you admire most:  Mohammad Ali.       

Hobbies:  I enjoy the outdoors, Hunting, Fishing, but most of all sleeping.        

Where and when did you first play rugby:    Early days on the farm.       

 Biggest influence on career:  My family

 Best career advice you were given:      Have fun and enjoy everything you do.     

 What you like Most/Least about being a rugby player:      The biggest bonus of being a rugby player is the people you meet and the friendships made through the game. Not having weekend off makes it hard to get away and do fun things but there will be plenty of weekends once you’ve done.

 Other sports that you played:   Waterpolo and Golf.             

 Best rugby memory:   There’s  a few, but beating our school rivals “Bishops” back home both times in 2000 was special        

Rugby Player you admire most:    Richie McCaw.

Rugby team you admire most:      Crusaders     

Sporting event you would most like to attend :  Any World Cup final should be good.          

If you werenʼt a Pro rugby player, What would you be:     Working on the boats and sailing around the world or back home on the farm.

Plans for life after rugby and what provision have you made:      Not too many plans just going to take it as a comes. More than likely go back to South Africa and go farming.

Advice you would give to aspiring pro rugby player:      There is no substitute for hard work.                      

Three people you would invite to dinner and why:          Ricky Gervais ( he must come as David Brent- funny man), Jessica Alba ( eye candy ), Eddie Murphy, Be a good laugh
