UCC Honours Munster Rugby Players For Sporting Achievements

University College Cork honoured the outstanding sporting achievements of its graduates over the last twelve months at a reception in UCC yesterday evening.

An array of silverware was on display last night when the sporting heroes gathered in UCC’s Aula Maxima, including the 2008 Heineken Cup.

Munster Rugby players and UCC graduates Ronan O’Gara, Mick O’Driscoll, Denis Hurley, Tomás O’Leary and Frankie Sheehan were joined by fellow graduates, Munster Rugby CEO Garrett Fitzgerald, Operations Manager Bryan Murphy and Irish Coach Declan Kidney.

Mr Con O’Brien, Vice-President for the Student Experience at UCC represented Dr Michael Murphy, President, UCC at the reception.  Mr O’Brien welcomed the sporting heroes and guests and said: “This is a unique occasion for the university to celebrate the outstanding sporting achievements of our graduates. The university is proud of its sporting heroes who have brought such honour to themselves and to their alma mater.”

The players continued outside to the quad for a photo reception with all the graduates honoured on the night.
