Highfield RFC Celebrates 75 Years

Highfield RFC celebrates its 75th anniversary this year and will be launching the celebrations with the launch of the club history on Saturday week next

This season Highfield Rugby Football Club is celebrating its 75th Anniversary. Club President, Martin McNally will oversee events off the field whilst Club Captain Neil O Donovan will be busy on it.

Various events will be held throughout the season to commemorate this milestone, beginning with the launch of a club history on Saturday October 29th 2006. This two hundred page document gives an insight into this volunteer driven club which has provided various recreational and sporting facilities in the western suburbs of Cork City since its foundation in 1930. It deals with all aspects of rugby within Highfield and contains many photographs and articles from members and well known sports personalities such as Tom Kiernan, Moss Keane, David McHugh, broadcaster Michael Corcoran and journalist Ned Van Esbeck.

The launch will take place in the Club Hall at 12 noon and guest of honour will be the Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr. Deirdre Clune.

The launch coincides with an AIB All Ireland League game against near neighbours University College Cork which kicks off at 2.30 pm.
