MUNSTER SCHOOLS TAKE PART IN IRFU COCA COLA MUNSTER TAG EXTRAVAGANZA

Over 360 fifth and sixth class pupils, representing twenty four primary schools from all six Munster counties took part in the IRFU Coca Cola Munster Tag Rugby Extravaganza at Musgrave Park on Tuesday 15th March. The inclement weather failed to dampen the spirits of the participants who played in the 10 aside mixed tournament. With the emphasis on participation, the top award of the day was judged on fair play, not points scored, Presentation Monastery, Killarney came up trumps and picked up the Fair Play Award on the day.

Prior to the festival of tag rugby, a Nations Parade took place, with each school invited to dress up in costume and represent a country. Flying the flag for Waterford was Holy Cross National School, Tramore, Co. Waterford who represented Australia and were awarded the team prize for Best Costume in the parade. St. John the Baptist School in Midleton, Co. Cork were awarded the Best Skills prize after an excellent display throughout the tournament.

It s the third year that Coca Cola have sponsored the initiative and numbers continue to grow. The participating schools were chosen from 115 schools from all over Munster who had previously competed in local and regional blitzes over the past number of months, organised by Munster Branch Youth Development Officers.
