What Is Going On ?

What Is Going On ?

Living in Bristol for the past five years and have been going to Munster s games in the Celtic League whenever they re over particularly in Wales which is just up the road. I was in Cardiff last Saturday and experienced a fierce dose of deja-vu. It was almost a carbon the last time I saw them in action. That was in Stradey Park. Here we were again playing a clearly inferior side and once again we couldn t even manage a bouns point never mind a win.

Some of the stuff that Munster produced wasn t worthy of AIL rugby. Passes flung, behind, below, above players; aimless kicking; wipe out at ruck-time and a general air of who-gives-a-damn.

We rarely if ever, threatened in our backline from a set piece and with the honourable exception of Shaun Payne, Anthony Horgan and Christian Cullen before he went off we never looked likely to breach the Cardiff defence. With Cullen gone so too did our chances.

This looks a frail side now and what s so worrying is that earlier in the League they were different. As the season has gone on we have dis-improved – Why ? What s going on. I mean it s not like last season when injury decimated the squad.

On Saturday, outside 9 and 10 we had all the frontline backs. We were shy up front of four internationals but we did have two members of the current Ireland 22, two more contenders, Wallace and Quinlan, two World Cup winning medallists, Williams and Bowman and a former (recent) Scottish international, Gordon McIlwham.

And remember this was a Cardiff side that were second from bottom. This was not a good side by any stretch of the imagination.

So what in the name of God is going on? Or more to the point what is going wrong.
