Donncha O’Callaghan, was born in Cork and educated at Christian Brothers College and won international recognition for the first time against England Schools in Lansdowne Road, March 1997.

Featured on the Ireland Under 19 side that won the FIRA World Youth Championship (April ’98) and less than a year later made his Under 21 debut as a replacement for Bob Casey in the game against Wales.

In November 2000 he represented Ireland at Under 25 level (v Japan) and in November 2001 played for the Ireland Development v Samoa in Donnybrook. The inevitable first A cap arrived when he came on as a replacement against Scotland in Ravenhill (March 2002) and a year later he won his first senior cap as a replacement against Wales in Cardiff.

Won seven more caps off the bench before winning his place in the starting XV for the RBS Six Nations game against Wales, Feb, 2004.

Since then he has been a regular member of the Ireland starting 22.

Munster: He made his debut for Munster against Edinburgh Reivers as they were then known, in August 1998 in Cork and his Heineken Cup debut for the side followed two months later against Perpignan in the 24-41 loss in France when he came on as a replacement.

Understudy to players like Mick O’Driscoll, John Langford and Mick Galway, he made the starting line-up for the first time in the semi-final against Stade Francais in Lille 2001 and is now the regular partner to Paul O’Connell in the Munster second-row.
