Senior Cup Ties dominate weekend domestic program

There are five ties in the Munster Senior Cup to be decided this weekend with both First Division clubs facing difficult tasks.

There are five ties in the Munster Senior Cup to be decided this weekend with both First Division clubs facing difficult tasks.

At Dooradoyle, Garryowen will hope to bounce back after last week’s defeat by Shannon in the semi-final of the league with a win over U.L. Bohemian, while at Musgrave Park Division 2 leaders Dolphin entertain Cork Constitution.

Bruff with home advantage over Young Munster could cause an upset and the two remaining ties are all Second Division clashes.

Highfield take on Thomond at Woodleigh Park in their third meeting this season and the fans will hope that they can produce another cracking tie like their league encounter a few weeks ago.

U.C.C. will fancy their chances at the Mardyke against Midleton.

The weekend’s only A.I.L. action is in Division 3, where Clonakilty make the long journey to Ballina for the re-arranged game against their North Mayo opponents. Should the West Cork men win and collect a bonus point they will go top of the table, while the home side are seeking their second win of the campaign.

In Section A of the Junior League, table toppers Crosshaven are in action in their own backyard against Clanwilliam. The two other Tipperary sides challenging for a play off place, are both at home. Kilfeacle host bottom club St. Senan’s and Cashel take on Fermoy. Ennis still in with an outside chance are away to Charleville.

In Section B, table toppers Youghal welcome Clonmel to the East Cork venue and should they win, they will effectively have ended their visitors’ title aspirations. Favourites and second-placed Nenagh Ormond welcome bottom club St. Mary’s to the North Tipperary venue. A home win would keep the hosts in contention for a play-off place. Third- placed Skibbereen are at home to Castleisland and Kanturk host Abbeyfeale in North Cork.

In Section C, leaders Cobh Pirates travel to the Premier County to take on third-placed Thurles, while second-placed Bandon are away to Tralee. Muskerry welcome Waterford City to Ballyanly, with both sides seeking their first win of the campaign. There is nothing but pride at stake in the mid-table clash of Richmond and Old Christians at Richmond Park.
