Fixtures Preview

Plenty of action over the weekend in both provincial and domestic rugby. Click More below for a full listing over fixtures over the coming days around Munster.

A weekend, which sees the final series of games in the Munster Senior Club League and the start of the Heineken Munster Junior League, are the dominating competitions this weekend, as fifty-eight adult competitive games are down for decision.

Garryowen and Shannon have already won their sections of the Senior League and the third section looks likely to be between Cork Constitution or U. L. Bohemian. These sides meet at Temple Hill and the winner will go into the hat on Tuesday for the semi-final draw.

The home side will start as favourites but their form to date has not been that impressive. Old Crescent could pip these sides for honours depending on the result at Temple Hill and if they can improve their point’s difference with a big win at home to Sunday’s Well. Midleton will be looking for a moral boosting victory when they play hosts to Shannon ahead of the opening of the AIL in a week’s time and U.C.C. entertain Young Munster at the Mardyke.

Dolphin play Thomond at Musgrave Park and they are also in search of their first victory and Highfield will hope to continue their good run with a home victory over Clonakilty. The new format of the Junior League will be very interesting to see if they will be some high scoring games. In section “A” which looks likely to be keenest contest of the three sections.

Charleville play Crosshaven and will be anxious to cause an upset, after the Seasiders win over Kilfeacle last week. Clanwilliam should pick up the points at home to Ennis and St. Senan’s will be anxious to halt Cashel’s impressive start to the season.

Fermoy who look like they will be the whipping boys in this section, start with a difficult tie at home to Kilfeacle. Nenagh Ormond, who will be strong favourites to win the title, should emerge from Section “B” as the top side and start with a difficult tie away to Youghal. Skibbereen, who will be in with a great chance of taking the second qualifying spot, should start with a win, when they travel to Abbeyfeale.

Clonmel after their disappointing defeat by Thurles last week will hope to pick up the pieces and get the points at home to Castleisland. A win for either Kanturk or St. Mary’s could make a big difference to avoiding the relegation play offs, when these sides meet at the North Cork venue. Cobh Pirates look the best bet to top Section “C”. They begin with a home tie against Richmond.

The Limerick side look like they have turned the corner and could themselves be in there fighting for the second play off place. Bandon should make their trip to Waterford City a winning one, while Old Christians face a difficult encounter at home to Muskerry.

Two sides that missed out on promotion last season Thurles and Tralee meet at the Tipperary venue and a defeat for either side would be a big blow to their ambitions of taking their place in the play offs. Thirteen sides will battle it out for the two promotion places from the Third Division and four of the sides fancied to go up, face each other.

Douglas relegated last season, entertain Mallow and Newcastle West after their recent Cup exploits are at home to Galbally. Dungarvan will have their work cut out, when they face Carrick-on-Suir. Dunmanway may just edge out Newport with home advantage and Ballincollig should get their campaign off to a winning start with a home victory over Kilrush.

There should be little between Kinsale and Killarney when they clash at the South Cork venue. The Munster Seconds League begins with both Cork Constitution and Garryowen expected to get off to winning starts. The Limerick side play Sunday’s Well at Dooradoyle and the Temple Hill side travel across the city to face Dolphin. U.L. Bohemian should collect the points against Thomond at Annacotty.

In Division Two of this league, Clonakilty should continue their good run with a home win over Highfield. Midleton will try and make amends for a heavy they suffered recently against U.C.C., when the sides meet again at the Towns Park.

Old Crescent should make their trip to Waterpark a winning one and Young Munster’s experience should prove too strong for Bruff. Cork Constitution and Highfield meet in the final of the South Munster Under 20 League at Musgrave Park, this Friday night with a 7.30 kick off.

The North Munster Under 20 semi-final sees Shannon taking on Garryowen at Coonagh. The third series of games in the Gleeson league are scheduled and the South Munster Junior Two, Three and Four Leagues get under way this weekend.
