An Under 19 Munster trial was held at the weekend in Cork. The first time trial was a further example of how the game has gone from strength to strength in the Province and the successful senior side will be kept on their toes in the next few seasons with plenty of talent coming through the ranks.

The side meet up again next weekend ahead of their clash with the Ulster U19 selection which will be played in Tralee on January 18th. Eleven Munster players were part of the Ireland Presidents side that tasted victory in Spain on Saturday against representatives of the Basque region in the North of the country.

J Lonergan, R Foley, Ann Marie AcAllister, Fiona Steed, Amanda Greensmith (all Shannon), Louise Beamish, Patrique Kelly, SarahJane Belton, and Lynn Cantwell (all UL-Bohs) all lined out in the starting fifteen while Clonkilty’s Aisling O Brien came off the bench.

Other Munster representatives in the side were first timers Fiona Coghlan (UL-Bohs) and Lynda Kelly (Clanwilliam). Sarah Jane Belton kicked two penalties, a convertion, and scored a try to add to an injury time try from Ulster’s Rachel Reid. The Irish will play the British Police next weekend in Chester.
