The Munster under 21 squad set off for England on Friday for a two match pre-season tour which will see them take on the formidable challenge of London Irish on Friday and Bath on Sunday.

The Munster selectors will bring a 28 strong squad with the intention of giving each member a chance to stake their claim for a place in the Interprovincial squad. We are really looking forward to the trip which will serve as very useful preparation for the upcoming championship. The opposition we face is especially strong but we believe it can only be beneficial to the players to expose them to this standard said team manager Niall O Shea. Included in the squad are nine players from last year while interesting newcomers include, Denis Fogarty, an U19 international and younger brother of senior squad member, John; Youth International from last year Breffni O Donnell, and two schools stars from last season Tomas O Leary and Barry Keeshan.

Four players – John O Connor, Gary Hehir, Kieran Murray and Jonathan Rothwell were ruled out through injury.

Munster U21 open their Interprovincial campaign with a game against Connacht in Musgrave Park on Saturday Sept 7th. They then play Leinster in Donnybrook and face Ulster in Limerick on Saturday Sept 28th. This season will see the introduction of a play off to decide the U21 championship with the top side in the final league table playing the fourth placed and second placed facing third.
