The last time Munster entertained an international side was exactly two years ago, almost to the day, when they came within seconds of lowering the colours of New Zealand in front a packed stadium.
Speaking about the fixture, Munster CEO Garrett Fitzgerald, who was Team Coach last time an Australian side played Munster (1992 Musgrave Park), said "It is particularly satisfying to be associated with an internationally respected and recognised brand, such as Sony Ericsson for such an occasion as this. Munster and Australia have a rich competitive tradition and I've no doubt but that this Sony Ericsson Challenge will provide a level of rugby in keeping with the best traditions of both sides.”
Today in the University of Limerick, Munster players Paul Warwick, James Coughlan and Donnacha Ryan joined Sony Ericsson Marketing Manager Russell Keating and National Account Manager Patrick Hughes at the official launch where Keating said “At Sony Ericsson we strive to give our customers the greatest entertainment experience and on November 16th we are all set for one of the most entertaining live sporting fixtures of the year! Irish rugby fans will see Munster take on Australia at Thomond Park in The Sony Ericsson Challenge. This game coincides with the launch of the Xperia X8, one of the Xperia range, the most entertaining smartphones!”
