The Ireland Under 19s, coached by Pat Murray ended their World Championship in fifth place after beating England 4-3 in a penalty shoot out after a game that ended in a 22-22 draw.
Ireland finished a highly creditable fifth in the FIRA Under 19 World Championship when they beat England 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out in Paris yesterday (Sunday).

The teams had finished level 22-22 after a close encounter. The score was 13-13 at half-time with Queen's University wing Richard McCarter going over for a try for Ireland which was converted by out-half Barry Keeshan. The UCC out-half also kicked two penalties.

In the second half Keeshan added three further penalties to leave the sides level at the final whistle.

Competition rules called for a penalty shoot out in order to decide fifth position in the tournament and, just as importantly, the seedings for next year and again Keeshan was on the mark as Ireland won by landing all of their first four kicks.
