Kilfeacle are the early leaders in Division 1 and both Clare clubs share the lead in Division 2.
Defending champions Kilfeacle are the only club with maximum points in Division 1, after their 43-30 away win in Kanturk. Ricky Whitney (3), Kevin Kinnane (2), Bob Purcell and Cillian Noonan were the Kilfeacle try scorers. Luke Heuston kicked four conversions. Eanna O’Mahony, Brian O’Sullivan, Matt Hooton and Dylan Moynihan replied with tries for Kanturk and Paul O’Keeffe kicked two conversions and two penalties.
Bandon are in second place, thanks to a late penalty from Daniel Coughlan which gave the West Cork side a 29-26 away win at Mallow. Dan Lane, Ryan McNulty and Kain Donnellan scored tries for Bandon and Coughlan kicked four penalties and a conversion. Diarmaid O’Riordan, Sean Glynn, Sean O’Riordan and Darragh Clifford were Mallow’s try scorers and Barry Taylor kicked three conversions.
Both newly promoted sides Crosshaven and Kinsale remain unbeaten as they occupy third and fourth places respectively.
Crosshaven survived a second half rally to beat Clanwilliam 27-25. Crosshaven led 20-3 at half time and had tries from Fergal Conway, Patrick Cotter and Josh McCarthy. Darcy Ryan kicked three conversions and two penalties. The visitors replied with tries from Gavin Downey, David O’Brien, Jack Armstrong and John Richardson. Darragh Burke kicked a drop goal and a conversion.
Kinsale caused a big upset travelling to Newcastle West and defeating the home side 31-27 in a game that also doubled up as a Junior Clubs Challenge Cup tie. Evan Lehane, Harlem Brown, Mark O’Connell and Dan Graham scored tries for Kinsale and Johnny Walsh kicked four conversions and a penalty. Sean Corbett replied with three tries for Newcastle West and Shane Airey scored one. Airey kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Sunday’s Well bounced back from their defeat in Skibbereen last week with a 47-32 home win against St. Mary’s. Emeka Asiegbu and Ewan Kennedy each scored two tries for the ‘Well and Rory Landers, Damian Kozik and John Costello got one each. Junior Leleisiauo kicked six conversions. Mary’s had tries from Jordan Duggan and Stephen Hayes along with two penalty tries. Ben Davey kicked two penalties and Tom Harrington one conversion.
After their great win last week, Skibbereen crashed to a 59-7 defeat away to Old Christians. Laz Rabatin, Mark Deane, Keelan Murrell, Dylan Purvis, Julian Power, Craig O’Connell, John Fitzgerald, Mark Gleeson and Dan Kelleher were the Old Christian try scorers. Sammy Haberlin kicked five conversions and Murrell two. Lorcan Carey replied with a try for Skibb’ and Hohaia Whiu converted.
Clonakilty bounced back from their surprise defeat last week by Crosshaven, with a 32-11 away win at Richmond. Ciaran McCarthy, Gearoid O’Donovan, Chris Walton and Dave Matthews scored tries for Clon’ and Carrado Berti kicked three conversions and two penalties. Josh Egan replied with a try for Richmond and Brian Mullins kicked two penalties.
Ennis and St. Senan’s are the early pace setters in the Second Division.
Ennis travelled to Fermoy and came away with maximum points after a 26-15 victory. Morgan Garry, Dale Watson, Matthew Bashua and Dylan Kenny scored tries for Ennis and Kenny kicked three conversions. Robert Hall and Will Buttimer replied with tries for Fermoy and Padraig O’Toole kicked a conversion and a penalty.
St Senan’s defeated Castleisland 42-22. Colin Moloney scored three tries for the Clare side and Shane Kelly, Roberto Kelly, and Adam McEvoy got one each. Sean Guilfoyle converted all six tries. Brian McEnery, Jordan Leane and Donnacha McSweeney replied with tries for the home side and McSweeney kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Newly promoted Killarney continued their good run with a 29-15 away win at Carrick-on-Suir. Alex O’Leary, Stephen Dalton, Jack Donoghue and Colin McCarty scored tries for Killarney. Donnchadh Grealy kicked a conversion and a penalty, and Arthur Gabbett added two conversions. Tyrone Forrester and Nial Moriarty replied with tries for Carrick and Fionn Barry kicked a conversion and a penalty.
Cobh Pirates defeated Charleville 25-19 at the north Cork venue. Saul Kahn, Jack Gilmartin, Diego Smith and Kevin Murphy were the Cobh try scorers and Mike White added three conversions. Jack Buckley, Charlie Collins and Calvin Hickey were Charleville’s try scorers and Ollie Young kicked two conversions.
Youghal came away from Waterpark with a 21-5 victory. Kelvin Yellop and Rory Fitzgerald scored tries for Youghal and Nathan O’Halloran kicked three penalties and a conversion. Cian Wakefield replied with a try for Waterpark.
Muskerry won the mid-Cork derby with a 33-31 home win against Ballincollig. Frankie Horgan scored three of Muskerry’s five tries and Jason Murphy and Dave Kiely got one each. Dan Morrissey kicked four conversions. Mark McLoughlin crossed for two tries for the visitors and Dan Hogan got one along with a penalty try. Adam Dodd kicked three conversions and a penalty.
Tralee defeated Thurles 15-7 with tries from Robert O’Neill and Sean Kent. Stephen Turner kicked a conversion and a penalty. James Butler replied with a try for the visitors and Fionn Fogarty converted.
In Division Three, Abbeyfeale won the battle of the two relegated sides with a 34-20 away win at Fethard. Darragh Joyce scored two tries for Abbeyfeale and Liam Collins, Shane Halpin and Tadgh Mulvihill got one each. Caomhin Barron kicked three conversions and a penalty. James Egan, Sean Prendergast, Will Ruttle and Andrew Ware were the Fethard try scorers.
Killorglin had a 40-19 away win in Dungarvan. Jamie O’Leary got two tries and Timmy Lynch, Stephen Cotter, Joe Langham and Alex Garry got one each. Luke O’Shea kicked five conversions. Eoin Beunaventura replied with two tries for Dungarvan and Johnny Power got one. David Hickey kicked two conversions.
Scariff defeated Corca Dhuibhne 27-15 with tries from Andrew Hogan, Scot Cairns, Sean Tracey and Ryan Imhoff. Shane Kavanagh kicked two conversions and a penalty. Michael Walsh and Eoin o Súilleabháin were try scorers for Corca Dhuibhne and Cathal Duffy kicked a penalty and a conversion.
Waterford City were 35-17 home winners against Bantry Bay. Darren Coady scored two tries for the winners and Cian Foskin, Conor hayes and Tommy Griffin got one each. Mikey O Connor kicked five conversions. Jack O’Donoghue and Niall O’Brien replied with tries for Bantry and Shane O’Sullivan kicked two conversions and a penalty.
